A TRIBUTE WITHIN THE LEGACY

A Love That Remains

Honoring CJ, Tré's Beloved Husband

Tré Major and his husband CJ smiling together at a celebration.

Photography by Chris Hughes

Behind the extraordinary life that so many knew and celebrated was a love that was deeply personal, beautifully shared, and profoundly meaningful.

In CJ, Tré found more than a husband. He found a partner, a confidant, a companion, and someone with whom he could share the fullness of his life.

Tré gave so much of himself to the world. He loved boldly, generously, and without reservation. And in CJ, he had someone who loved him not only for the brilliance the world could see, but for the man he was beyond the spotlight.

Their love was part of Tré's beautiful story — a story of partnership, commitment, laughter, tenderness, and the everyday moments that make a lifetime together so precious.

TO CJ

Thank you for loving Tré. Thank you for sharing your life with him, for standing beside him, and for being part of the love and happiness he experienced in this world.

Though his physical presence is no longer with us, the love you shared remains an everlasting part of his legacy.

The world knew Tré Major.
CJ knew the man behind the magic.

"Some love stories do not end.
They simply become part of eternity."

The Hands Behind the Icons. The Vision Behind the Image.

This archive documents his creative relationships with artists whose images he helped define — through music videos, editorial photography, commercial campaigns, and the quiet artistry of the chair.

Mary J. Blige

The Art of Reinvention

Mary J. Blige archival portrait. Hairstyling by Tré Major.

Tré Major's relationship with Mary J. Blige represents one of the defining creative partnerships of his career. During the Family Affair era — one of the most celebrated reinventions in R&B history — Tré contributed hairstyling that helped shape the visual language of the moment.

Among his documented contributions: avant-garde wig designs and a custom hairstyle he referred to as the "Marvin Martian," which became emblematic of Mary's willingness to push visual boundaries. Tré spoke openly about her fearlessness as a collaborator — her trust in his vision, and his in hers.

The 2001 "Family Affair" music video stands as a landmark of that era, and Tré's work behind the scenes contributed to the image that millions saw on screen.

My Loving Nephew

A Tribute from Auntie Kim-Ko

Greatness was already in your soul. Watching you grow up, I saw what you would become; you stepped into your destiny with a God-given name.

You left the world with something beautiful: a legacy that will live on. You became Tré' Major — Power, Purpose, and Grace. A spiritual legacy of love, a reminder that the greatest gifts are ordained from above.

He became a Master of Style with a gift beyond compare. The celebrities came from everywhere, and your artistry spoke to every strand of hair. A creation of beauty, he touched heads of greatness; he made beauty come alive.

Tré' left his mark where only the gifted thrived, but underneath the fame, lights & applause, was the nephew I loved with all my heart. He will live on forever; a star whose light will keep shining and never fall apart.

"Greatness in your spirit; love is in your legacy; forever is where your memory will be."

Rest peacefully, our Tré' Major — Tré', our Casper, and forever in our hearts.

With all my love. Yours Truly,

Auntie Kim-Ko

FROM HIS HUSBAND

My Best Friend, My Partner, The Love of My Life

My beloved husband, Tré', was my best friend, my partner, and the love of my life. We shared 20 wonderful years together, including 10 years of marriage after saying "I do" on September 5, 2016. Our life together was filled with love, laughter, adventure, and purpose.

Together, we raised our daughter, Areina, who is now 18 and attending college. Tré' was an incredible husband and father, and the love and devotion he gave our family will remain with us always. He was a true family man, welcoming friends and extended family with such warmth and generosity that everyone felt like one of his own.

Tré' loved traveling by my side, building a lasting legacy together, and bringing joy wherever he went. He was also passionate about his career and shared his remarkable talent with the world. His light helped others recognize the beauty within themselves and all around them.

Tré' was joyful, fun-loving, and full of life. The way he loved, gave, and made people feel seen is a testament to the person we should all aspire to be. I miss him more than words can express, and I will carry his love, his light, and the legacy we built together in my heart always.

With all my love,

CJ

FAMILY TRIBUTE

From Your Little Cousin Tracy

Cousin, I'm still trying to process all of this, but one thing I'll never question is the love we had. You always showed up, and when you did, you never came regular. You came with the Major look, Major love, and that big-cousin energy only you could bring.

You knew you were him before the world caught on. You didn't just do hair — you created moments, set trends, and left your touch all through the industry. But before the celebrities, before the glam, before the iconic looks, you were my cousin. My Tré'.

You were Pop Life for real — and I can already imagine you in heaven bringing everybody back to life, getting the whole place together, while I'm down here trying to get along with these feelings and this grief.

I know you're up there so fresh and so clean, probably looking around like, "Okay… who did this hair?" Because basic was never your ministry.

And every time I see a celebrity on TV, I already know I'm gonna say, "Mmm… cute, but that ain't a Major look."

Your talent will live on. Your name will live on. Your love will live on. I love you, Cousin, always and forever.

Your little cousin,

Tracy 🤍🕊️

FAMILY TRIBUTE

Our Corner of the World

The walls of my house still echo with the sound of us talking and laughing for hours, tucked away on the couch in our favorite corner.

I am so deeply grateful for those simple, sacred moments — especially when you would do my hair, your gentle hands matching the easy comfort of our conversation.

You were so much more than a brother; you helped me raise Ashleigh, pouring your love and care into our family.

When life felt heavy, you spoke life into me and helped me be strong, always reminding me of who I was.

Those long talks, your guiding words, and our shared laughter are the anchors that will keep me grounded now.

While the space you left behind feels quiet, the warmth of your love is where my healing begins.

Thank you for being my brother, my protector, and my truest friend. No one understood the unspoken language of our bond quite like you, Tré'. Rest easy, brother. I'll keep your light in my heart, so for now, see you later My Angel.

From our earliest childhood memories, we shared a bond that life could never break. Born just 13 months apart, we were thick as thieves. Although life sometimes took us down different paths, we always found our way back to each other. No distance, no circumstance, and no amount of time could ever change the love between us.

You were my big little brother, my childhood companion, my confidant, and my forever friend. I will always cherish your larger-than-life personality, your beautiful heart, your unwavering faith, and the way you loved so deeply. I will miss your unexpected visits, the fresh flowers you brought just because, your words of wisdom, and even those moments when you insisted your intuition was always right.

But most of all, I will miss your arms wrapped tightly around me and that special kiss you always placed on the top of my head.

Losing you so soon after saying goodbye to our baby brother has left a heartache words cannot express. We promised to hold each other up, and now I must find the strength to carry both of you in my heart.

I find comfort in knowing your faith was strong and believing that you are now at peace, free from pain and the burdens of this world.

Thank you for a lifetime of memories, laughter, prayers, and unconditional love. I will forever be proud to be your sister.

Until we find our way to each other again, just as we always did.

Rest peacefully, my sweet brother. Give our baby brother a big hug for me.

I love you always and forever.

FAMILY TRIBUTE

To My Brother Tré', My Forever Bond

My brother Tré', where do I begin,
How do I say goodbye to my big brother?
A piece of my heart went with you that day,
And nothing in this world can take that pain away.

You always told me we were so much alike,
Same personality, same attitude, same fire inside.
You saw yourself in me in ways I couldn't see,
And now those little pieces of you will forever live in me.

You always tried to bring out my feminine side,
Encouraging me to soften, to embrace the woman inside.
That was your way of loving me, of helping me grow,
A side of your heart that only those close to you know.

I'll miss your words, your laughter, your way of being you,
The conversations, the memories, and the bond we always knew.
I never imagined I'd have to live in a world without you,
Or learn how to keep going when all I want is one more moment with you.

Tré', you weren't just my brother; you were a part of my soul,
A bond that death can never break, a love that will always hold.
And though I cannot see you or hear you call my name,
The love between us will never fade or change.

Maybe now, when I catch myself in my attitude or the things I say,
I'll smile through my tears because I know you're still with me in some way.
I'll carry your spirit, your strength, and your love in everything I do,
And every time I see a little of myself in me, I'll remember you.

Until we meet again, my brother, save me a place up there.
I'll hold you in my heart until the day I join you there.
You may have left this earth, but your love will never end.

Rest peacefully, my brother Tré'.
You will forever be my brother, my piece of home,
And one of the greatest loves my heart has ever known.

I love you forever, Tré'. Until we meet again.

FROM HIS MOMMA

You Will Always Be My Baby

Tré', I'm going to miss you. I'm so glad we had the chance to get close — to laugh together, spend time together, and make memories that I will carry for the rest of my life.

You always did things your own way, starting with your arrival. I was only six months and three weeks into my pregnancy when you decided it was time to meet the world. You weighed just 2 pounds, 9 ounces, but you came with your mouth wide open, making noise and making your presence known. You were tiny, but you had something to say.

I remember when you were 13 months old and wouldn't crawl. You would roll wherever you wanted to go, and then you went from rolling to walking. Looking back, that was you all along. You found your own way forward, in your own time. That little boy grew into a man with his own vision, his own style, and a gift for making people feel beautiful.

There are so many memories. I still laugh about when you lived in Woodland Hills and did my hair and makeup. You gave me that long old blonde ponytail, and when I looked at myself, I hardly recognized who I was looking at! I thought that ponytail was a mess. But I loved being with you and letting you work your magic on me.

We could sit and watch television, talking about everybody's hair and makeup, and you would have me cracking up. I remember you seeing Patti LaBelle when you were only four or five years old and saying, "Momma, I'm going to do her hair." And you did. I got to watch something you dreamed about as a little boy become part of your life.

As much as I loved your talent and your humor, I loved your caring ways. You were always thinking about everyone else. You had a way of making people feel special, and I will always treasure the love you showed me.

I wish you hadn't gone so soon. I'm going to miss you every day. I'll miss your phone calls, you popping up on me wherever I was, and you doing my hair. I'll miss our conversations and the way we laughed together. I'll miss the everyday moments that meant so much.

You made your presence known from the moment you arrived, and you left your momma with a lifetime of memories.

I love you, Tré'.
